He went to the second best GPU behind the 280. Why is that not a good thing?

Wreckage, the stupidity of that question is to obvious for me to even respond to it. Think about it yourself for a sec, reread what I said in my post, and you just might get it.

I agree that my CPU is holding me back, but it is not b/c of the clock speed. 3ghz is plenty, but the amount of cache. The E2180 comes with a whopping 1mb cache...

I am contemplating going to a E8600 or Q6600 in January.

This card is amazing. I am playing Crysis over again since Crysis Warhead comes out today. I'm now using the CCC mod @ level 5 that allows for color enhancing, dx10 "god rays", realistic shadows, some performance tweaks, and the time of day mod @ 1920x1200. I'm amazed at the level of detail

Reading this thread makes me want to upgrade my 8800GT now, too! I'm waiting on S:CS and Warhead because I don't want to half-ass them on my 8800GT. I just don't know if I can justify the cash/performance increase the OP can. I might be waiting a bit longer.

For me 8800 GT days are numbered. Stalker Clear Sky and Crysis Warhead are running horrible on maximum settings, so this is the time to upgrade. It would have also been great if I had some money too. :(

Crysis running on maximum settings was a given considering a 280gtx can't even do that. Stalker is the same. Probably a badly written considering it doesn't run all that well on a 280gtx either and doesn't look that great.

When 8800gt becomes useless I can only assume 280gtx will be useless as well.
