Hey all.

My current system is a AMD 2400+ XP. With 1g of mismatched memory. 1x512 of PC2100 and 1x512of PC2700 DDR.

I am looking to upgrade to AMD AThlon64 3000+ with 1g of PC3200 DDR.

My question is, is this worth it? Or should I just stay where I am at?

Thanks

There will be a significant performance gain no doubt. It also depends on what you do,if you just use it for internet browsing, emails & processing documents then i guess you can stick with the current system for now.But if you really feel the itch to upgrade, then by all means go for it ;)

if you game, upgrade! get the 3000+, make sure you get a mobo that is socket939, I don't know if 3000+ is available for 754, but just in case, I'm mentioning it.

It may be more expensive now, but later on when the 3000+ is obsolete, you get to upgrade for a much stronger chip than available for socket 754, plus you can go dual core later on if it fits your needs.

i've got a 3000 for skt 754 and have for a while. What it isn't is a 90nm. those aren't (and probably never will be) availible for skt754.

upgrade is only worth it if you game, like others have said.

The other question is, "are you happy with your computer now" If you can't play the games you want to at the resolution you want, or you find your self spending a lot of time waiting for your last programming assignment to compile, then yes, upgrade. If you've got a computer that works and it's fast enough for you, than no, don't upgrade.
