Upgrade worth it? 920 to 4820k

Just had an ol' friend get a hold of me because he's upgrading his current system. Basically he offered me an Asus Rampage motherboard, i7 4820k CPU, 32gb of DDR3, an XFX videocard (not sure what model), and a 1050 watt Couger 80plus Gold PSU all in a Thermaltake Core V71 case for $300. Basically the whole tower minus a hard drive/SSD. I figure I can upgrade to that setup then sell my i7 920 rig as a complete system for most if not all of what he's asking (I have extra HD's & SSD's to swap in).

So is this a no brainer or is there not going to be a significant bump in speed worth my trouble?

Dont even think about it, just get it ;)

Kinda what I'm thinking, especially because he just told me it also comes with a Cooler Master Nepton 280L :-O I just told him I'm on my way after work to pick this up.

Nice, just depending on the GPU you will get , you will only have to upgrade to a new Vega/Pascal next year.

I'm betting the GPU won't be anything special. He said it has a weird driver issue where if you use any driver other than the one that came with the card, the screen flickers so since I don't know what card it is, I have yet to look into that issue :-/

Ummm huh? I believe this is a thread asking about performance differences and upgrade worthlessness, not bragging.

Sweet new rig.

I hooked a friend of mine up with a brand-new Lenovo with a Sandy i3 3.4Ghz and a 750ti. I'm giving him the opportunity to try it out, and then if he likes it, to just pay me for the GPU.

He keeps putting off trying it out. :( So he's had it for months now, and hasn't paid me, and I told him to try it out, and get back to me soon, or return it if he doesn't want it, so I can put it on local forsale lists.

I thought I was hooking him up good, but it seems he doesn't see it that way.

He currently uses a Q9400 with 8GB DDR2, and a GTX460, that has video-driver crashes fairly often. (I did also replace his PSU last time I was there, hopefully that took care of the crashes, or maybe he needs a new GPU.)

Ouch. I'd be giving him a ring on the phone saying pay up or return my laptop!

Killer deal for that setup. If your Q6600 ever struggles transcoding multiple 1080p streams using PLEX, you can always use the 920, or sell the setup and get something more energy efficient.

Your friend has more money than he can handle. Lucky you! $300... wow.

Your "friend" is taking advantage of you. Tell him to kindly return it so you can sell it before it loses any more value.

Get it out for sale before the 750Ti loses most of its value, Polaris 10/11 will be the likely replacements, & what AnonymouseUser said :D

Thought about upgrading the server to the 920 but I don't think I could get too much out of the Q6600. I have a friend who's been asking me to sell him a computer I don't know how long the Q6600 would last him. He wants to game a bit on it (he keeps talking about Half Life & Half Life 2 which I know it would handle but beyond that). I guess we'll see what I end up doing.

Yeah he still hasn't told me what he upgraded to! The only hint I have is he put some parts in his new video card box to give to me with the system and it had 8gb of RAM on it :-O I think it was an R9 380 or 390 but I don't remember off the top of my head.

Now you can share the good karma and hook your buddy up with that Q6600 system.
