Upgrade, wait or switch carriers?

Well the time has once again arrived where I now have the option of upgrading my phone on Verizon in return for a renewal of a 2 year contract. I've thought about getting either the current favorite flavor of smartphones in the SGIII or perhaps going with the HTC Incredible 4G. I currently have an old school HTC Inc flashed to CM 7.2 and for the most part I've been happy with it. I'm in no huge rush to upgrade so I could wait longer although I'm not too happy that Verizon now charges $30 to upgrade your phone. It pretty much kills the last $50 I get from my new every two program that I won't have available after this upgrade. Plus if I do upgrade I'll also lose my unlimited data plan (yes, I'm that old school 10 year customer).

So while I've played with the SGIII a good bit and read a good bit about folks experiences with the phone I haven't heard quite as much about the Incredible 4G. Does anybody have experience with this phone that they'd care to share? Right now I'm thinking of just waiting it out and see how long it takes before I get some other offers from Verizon, they seem to get a little bit on the antsy side sometimes the longer you stay out of contract. But that could just be my imagination. For reference if I went with the SGIII it'd be $179.99 + taxes & shipping vs $99.99 for the Inc 4G + taxes & shipping.

does sg3 have much better battery life than incredible? that alone would be a reason to go with sg3. the new motorola phones look even nicer than sg3, thats what i would have gotten if i had had the choice.

but personally i wouldnt give up my unlimited plan just to save a few bucks on a phone upgrade.

I'd be hesitant to give up the unlimited data unless you know you won't need it. Once you get off Verizon's pathetic 3G speeds and on to LTE, you'll actually be able to stream HD videos, download large files, upload pics/videos etc. like you're on a landline connection.

I had an Incredible from June '09 until May 2010. Felt it was too slow from the day I got it, but that's about where hardware/android stood at the time. SGS3 meets all expectations and then some. But if you're in no hurry, of course better phones will be coming out as time goes by.

Keep unlimited data. Or switch carriers if coverage is the same. I like t-mobile's plans and phones for the money. In major cities, their network is awesome too. That's what I would switch to if I wasn't on prepaid/Straight Talk.

If I were on VZW the only options I would look at would be the S3 or the MOTOROLA RAZR MAXX HD ABC123 XL.

Unlimited 3G is useless. Not sure if you can get unlimited LTE if you go unsubsidized on the device.

T-mobile is getting LTE here in the Memphis area around December. I will definitely be switching from Verizon next year when my contract is up. I doubt Verizon will be getting another Nexus device, & that is all I care about using after owning a G.Nex.

I don't know, solid '3G' isn't bad. Technically, TMO's HSPA+ is 3G . . . they just call it 4G. Its more than adequate for most tasks.

Heh, side note. I get better 3G on my TMO Exhibit phone in my house than I do with my Verizon Gnex. Slightly moot though, since they're usually both on WiFi.

By that reasoning, technically Verizon LTE is 3G. So whatever.

1mbps 3G on Verizon isn't comparable to 4-6+mbps HSPA, plus or no.
