Here is the question,
Given this monitor has a native resolution of 1680x1050, what would you do- Opinons from actual 2005FPW owners is preferred, but other "wide-screeners" opinions are still welcome.

Stay AGP a while longer (Go to 7800GS)

Dive in and upgrade (New PC with 7800GT PCIe)

Shut up and enjoy the 5900 that I have now until (The Next Best Thing) comes out..

Comments?

Make the jump to PCI-E. If you game at all, you'll need more power than a 5900 for your 2005fpw, and there is a heafty price premium for going AGP with the 7800GS.

Edit: Current 2005fpw owner.

As far as the budget is concerned, I really don't want to spend what I am looking at spending, as the jump to PCIe basically ends up as a complete rebuild (as long as I am doing this.....), But I already realize that I am pretty strongly GPU limited right now.

(It even shows up pretty strongly in the game I most frequently play now, Civ4)

*I am looking at a $2000 system rebuild, unless I stay put until later or go with an AGP bump for somewhere around $300 (I haven't actually priced the 7800GS)

If you wanted to get any AGP card I'd try and find a used X800/X850 series or a 6800GT. It doesn't seem like the newest gen AGP cards are worth the $$, when there are lots of people getting rid of decent used AGP cards for cheap.

BUt its tough to recommend an AGP card when you have the $$ for a rebuild. I was in the same situation (3200+, 1GB ram, 9800 Pro, 2005FPW), though I didnt find Civ4 to slowdown. I guess I didn't really need to do a complete upgrade but I had the $$ so why not. My A64 + 7800GT is hella awesome for FEAR, COD2, BF2, etc etc.

With $800 you could get a very nice upgrade. You can reuse a lot of your old stuff. Get a new NF4 mobo, another 1GB RAM, 7800GT, and whatever speed A64 you can afford.
