got an AGP setup with a 3500+ venice oc'd to 2.45, i do alot of multitasking, i watch TV on the comp and do other stuff at the same time.

I don't want to upgrade to core2duo for a while since that would mean new mobo, GPU, memory ect....

for about $120 an X2 3800+ is looking good right now. Would i be called an idiot to buy one? I'd also try to OC the hell out of it.

i was waiting for the next big thing to come along for PC's and i thought that a core2duo was it. But upgrading to x1900xt plus mobo, plus mem, plus CPU is probably not going to be worth it for me. Gonna spend 100$ for upgrade and see how long the x2 can last me.

HEY SinCity,,

why don't you just get a 4400x2,that has 2X1 megs of cache instead of 512k. im tellin ya,you will see a difference in performance going from a cpu with dual 512k cache,to a cpu with 2X1 meg of cache. i own a 4400x2(toledo core) only needs 1.35-1.40 volts too.
id just save up the extra 25-50 bucks and get a 4400x2.faster cpu,,more on-die cache.
at any rate,,best of luck to ya in your decision of what amd cpu youll purchase. :) :)
but i'm tellin ya, you will be much happier with the 4400x2 :)

x2 4600 and x2 3800 are not relatively closely priced atleast in india, and so in x2 5000 for that matter

Was in the exact same boat almach, but with a 3500+Winches@2.53. Got the X23800+ now @2.4 and it is an amazing difference while multi-tasking. Same performance in gaming. Totally worth it IMO if your a multi'er. There is a little more work to the installation (drivers/hotfix/dc optimizer), but well worth it. Where can you get it @ $120? Thats a steal. I paid $160 to my door.

Unfortunately for US consumers, the price difference between the 3800+ and the 4400+ is about $70 ($150 to $220), and would be an even $100 if the TC can get the 3800+ for $120.

the extra cache is nice (2-8% performance increase depending on application), but definitely not enough to justify a marginal price increase of 50%+
