can someone please help

i found this forum by chance but it was rated 10/10..

well here goes my friend installed windows me on his computer and then he could not find his cd writer..he has been posting on another forum but this problem has not been sorted .. the referce below is his words from the forum..

Hi All
I hope someone can help.....I've installed Windows ME and now i've got an error when i start any backup software ( Nero, CDRWin etc )...I get a message which states ASPI error or scsi host manager error...When i check everthing in systems all is OK but when i check it in the software i got with my scsi card is states error codes 10 and 22..A Code 10 means an error occurs when a device is not detected or not working properly. First, see if all the cable connections are okay, if adapter cards are fully inserted into their slots, and if ribbon cables or power cables are connected properly.
Error code 22 occurs when devices have been disabled. To enable the device, go to the Device Manager and double-click on its icon to bring up its Properties dialog box. On the page displayed, look for the Device Usage list box. The Device Usage box lets you configure your computer to run a different set of devices with different configurations. For most users, only one configuration is listed: Original Configuration (Current). To enable the device for this configuration (which is also the current one) click the checkbox beside it, click OK, and restart your computer.

I've checked all of this and still have no joy......Is it a ME problem ????? I know Windows NT doesn't support ASPI is the same for Win ME ???I've also tried Windows Support and found NOTHING

installed all the latest drivers. I have tried the latest drivers from the scsi card manufacture, Yamaha's latest drivers and the software from Adyansis ( Scsi Software )
even Nero's latest bits....Everything was working with Win 98... I have tried on other occasions to contact Gigabyte ( Motherboard Manufacture ) but they seem 2 B ignoring me ( Typical !!!! they take your money and hide )..What software did U try tonyfd1??When I checked the device with the software I got with the card, it states I have an error with my PCI steering?but in systems all is OK?I have also changed the settings but still I have the same problem?.Even if I change the settings in BIOS it still states I have Errors?.Code 10 and 22?.The writer I have is a Yam CRW4416S and the Scsi Card is a Side-2930C....

After playing around 4 hours I have now sorted Nero and CDRwin?ie: My drives R now listed??.But in my Superview software ( What I got with the scsi card ) it states ::::::

This device has a problem -

I?ve tried to change the setting in BIOS ie: Legacy ISA but Windows will then only start in Safe Mode??If I back any thing up I get an Error when I try 2 read the CD??

i found this link for him http://www.flexion.org/aspi/
but he said it didnt work

I've swapped the scsi card about and I have also played around with my bios.....I have managed 2 remove two conflicts but I'm left with one now.....if I change the settings in bios on the IRQ I have an error on , When ME starts up it will only start in Safe Mode. I've loaded all the latest drivers...and still I have a BLO**Y error.....Jiff U say I can force the hardware....Can U give me a little more info and what that should achieve.....I can remove Superview but will ME manage my scsi card ?????
If back anything up I get errors when I read the CD afterwards.....

I?ve made the changes in my BIOS and now I have the following errors ????

?Does this make any sense 2 U????????.Do U have any ideas ????????????????
If I change IRQ 9 and 11 to not PnP it clears the errors on them , but if I do the same on IRQ 10 Win ME will only start in safe mode until I change the setting again...

The SCSI card isn?t sharing anything ??..The only thing I?ve used on my HD is EZ which came with the HD?( Primitive form of Partition Magic )?I?ve got around 6.5 Gig left on the partition the CDR software is on?..

WHAT WOULD U DO ?????????? Win 98 or Keep Trying

im sorry for all that this words and i have cut out loads of stuff..

well the basic story is it worked ok with 98 but it wont work with win me.

i told him i think yamaha should stick to making motorbikes... he didnt take it very well

heres hoping

he has tried adapetc aspi but this didnt work..

well mini me
if you aint got nothing better to do then please dont post here.. i wont help.. not people with nothing better to do than talking crap!!!!!

When you had windows98 in there did you get any errors? It might be WindowsME still has a lot of bugs in it and sometimes it doesn't support certain brand hardware. If I were you I would stick with Windows 98SE until they come up with the Second Edition WINDOWS ME.

WinME has the best ASPI and SCSI support Ive used yet, right off the bootdisk. Tell him to stop playing with all the settings and get back to basics. Setup the Bios to a normal configuration, reformat and reinstall winMe with no additional programs to "help" with ASPI or SCSI...WinMe has all it needs to get you going and running fine. Of course this is considering that he is using a retail WinMe and not some downloaded Beta crap. 🙂 Be sure to make a bootdisk from WinMe before proceeding

thanks for replying..
when he had win98 he had no probs at all..
he did do to start with format and a clean install..he has a full retail version he has also tried my version with the same results.. after with making changes to the bios he has now found his cdr in the software programs..before he had none..

Ok, I wish your post was easier to read. The following is what I have deciphered:

The Problem: your friend is unable to get his three different CD burning programs (Nero, CDRWin, and Superview) to detect his CD writer in Windows ME...

His Attempts: your friend has tried changing the IRQ of the SCSI adapter in CMOS and tried swaping the PCI slot...

My Questions: Does the CD writer function normally in Windows ME (i.e. can he go into Explorer and access a CD with that drive)?

<< I have managed 2 remove two conflicts but I'm left with one now.....if I change the settings in bios >>

What conflicts is he talking about, IRQ? Are there IRQ conflicts in listed in "Device Manager"?

hi ac

well just phoned him he siads he finds it ok in my computer and works ok.. there is no conflicts in device manager the conflict is in his scsi card software superview..he said that that has has copied a cd now and the cdr software said copied ok. but he he checks the cd there it wont recognise in either cd or cdr he thinks he is close but not quite.. he has tried all different software..cdrwin/nero/clonecd.. etc etc all the same..

his scsi card is iwill 2930c and has the latest update firmware/software..

any ideas

Some CD-ROMS and CD Writers have a lot of trouble reading CDRs and/or CDRWs. You can try decreasing the burn speed of the CD writer or get higher quality CDRs or CDRWs. I have a Yamaha 4x4x16 and it sometimes doesn't read CDRs that it had just written. I heard Plextors are better.

thanks again

he cant read what he just burned on any drive..im sure he has tried slower speeds of writing but i will check with him.. he still never had any probs before with 98 so i dont think it is the cdrw ??? do you???

the beamer

If it isn't the drive, it could be the CDRs he's using. Check to see if they read in your drives (check that the CDs burned in Win98 work in your drives also). Are the programs he uses WinME Compliant?

sorry m8

still waiting for a reply from him.. i think he is busy at work..

i report back soon..

cheers for your help so far

thebeamer

hi ac

well my reply was

The error is IRQ10 steering control error......That's it ........

so any help..but with that sort of reply i dont think much help

well let us know

thebeamer

If "PCI Steering" is giving you troubles, you could try disabling it by doing the following:

In the BIOS:
1) disable "PNP OS Installed", and
2) specify the IRQs for the PCI slots.

In Windows:
1) disable "Use IRQ Steering" in "Device Manger" > "System devices" > "PCI bus" > "IRQ Steering"

Keep me posted.

minime you are some sort of nob.. does mini me you have a little nob..

if you could read you would know that i havent got the problem ..dah
it is beond you coz you havent got a answer but to talk crap..
go and grow up or say something that would help..

thebeamer..

hi ac

sorry been away..

he reported back to me that he has now removed all his cards.including scsi and still has the same problem.. all we can think of it most be his motherboard..

also i had no probs in win98 after apgrade to winm i now have acpi irq holder for pci steering . acpi\*pnp0c0f\00000001

have you or anyone else got any ideas please.

the beamer..

I have ME installed in one of my computers and when I tried to access my HP CDRW, ME would not recognize it at all. I went to the HP site and discovered that there is a compatibility problem with ME and that they are working up patches for all of their CDRWs... Yamaha may be the same. So I moved it to my Win 98 machine and it works like a charm.

Good luck!🙂
