I have a copy of Vista64 HP OEM. Is there a upgrade option to, say, Windows 7 64 HP OEM ? Can't find any.

Generally, OEM software can't be used for an in-place upgrade at all. It only allows installation on an empty partition.

Those who purchased Vista OEM software or computers over the past several months were offered coupons for special upgrade versions of Windows 7. Apparently these special OEM upgrades have the ability to perform an in-place upgrade of OEM Vista of the same version (x64, HP).

If you are not elegible for one of those free upgrades, you can always purchase a Windows 7 Retail Box Upgrade package. Those can upgrade your OEM Vista. Or you can buy a copy of OEM Win7 HP. But that won't allow an in-place upgrade.

Just that you'll know. 😀

Upgrade means clean install from a previous version. 😱

Upgrading from Vista with compatible version of Win7 while keeping the Vista applications and files intact, is called "in-place upgrade" installation. :awe:

Was hoping to upgrade current. Guess I'll go with a clean install using OEM 7.

You will have no problem upgrading Vista to Windows 7 with all your files and settings intact. Only the editions matter, so if you have Vista Home Premium then upgrade to 7 Home Premium.

OEM and Retail are not factors in this process.

Buy Windows 7 Home Premium OEM or retail DVD and follow these steps:

1. Boot your PC with Windows Vista like normal all the way into the desktop.
2. Close any running apps so they don't interfere.
3. Place the Windows 7 DVD in and autoplay should launch it, otherwise you will need to manual start it by double clicking setup.exe on the DVD.
4. Choose upgrade not custom when you reach this screen:

The whole process may take awhile depending on your configuration and speed of computer.
