I'm curious about the reasons people will have to upgrade to Vista. I know computer manufacturers have been wanting a new OS from MS since XP came out so long ago but I can't see many people buying a new computer just because it has Vista installed. When XP came out I could understand home users wanting to upgrade from 98 since, in my opinion, XP was a big improvement over 98. Of course, for businesses there was no great rush to upgrade from 2000 to XP since 2000 is pretty good. I like XP and have not really seen any features in Vista that make me think that I will need to rush out and get it once it's released. anybody here going to rush out and get Vista?

I will. I am hoping for a generally better user experience (stability and speed). There are no features in Vista that i am excited about though, but I dont expect my OS to be more than stable and user friendly. I can for instance not see myself getting excited over WinFS, so I don't care that they dropped it from Vista.

I would wager that almost everybody who migrates to vista either A) goes to college and can get it for 10.00, B) Pirates it to look cool, or C) got it with a new PC. I doubt very few people will go out and buy it. Look at the die hard 98 users still out there. Or people who still argue about installing sp2 for windows xp.

XP has always seemed very stable and quick to me

XP is great, gotta love not having to install drivers for every damn thing you hookup.

Vista, who knows its suppose to be more secure, well see how that goes.

Well, it is stable and reasonably fast, but it has its slowdowns once in a while. Appart from better UI, I don't se what else you would want a new OS for if not stability and speed...

There's people who'll blame sp2 for everything.

Application has a memory leak? SP2's fault!
BSOD due to bad device drivers from manufacturer? SP2's fault!
Can't burn a CD 'cause the burner's drive is off balance? SP2's fault!
Overclocked your CPU with a sh!tty PSU and killed your Mobo and eveything on it? SP2's FAULT!!!!

I will be staying away from Vista until reviews show that it is worth the trouble. If they can improve the OS on a fundamental level (ie better task management/memory leakage/memory usage) I will upgrade... otherwise XP is good enough. The less system resources being hogged by the OS the better.

Plus...btw... I want to boycot DRM enabled junk as long as possible. I hate what Macrovision has done to Tivo and I hate DRM in general. I am paying for the fair use of a product (like a movie DVD), I should have the right to back it up and play it on any system that I want. I do not support piracy... and I do not pirate software... yet the very usage that I am buying these movies for is being limited. It's not limiting piracy... anyone can slap down $5 and buy movies that are not evening playing in the theators yet... but it is limiting the reasons that I go out and buy anything.

I hope that Vista is more than pretty pictures... I think there is alot of room for improvement in XPs code... and I hope Vista has that... If it doesn't it will just be another Win ME to me (stay away!!!).
