upgrade to vista premium?

Hi, I haven't posted on this board for a while. Let me try to explain my situation as best I can. I am coming into my last semester for Engineering on September and unfortunately, they have canceled the Laptop Rental Program, which forced me to get one. The minimum requirements for the school are 2GHZ Dual-core, 3 GB RAM and Vista Premium, and 120GB Hard drive. I bought a Lenovo G530 with 2.16 Dual Core, 2 GB (upgraded it to 4 GB), and 160GB Hard drive. However, this only comes with Vista Basic. Now before everyone starts bashing me to "Just buy it and be done with it", I just don't understand why they don't accept Vista Basic and yet they accept XP Home. Obviously, there is a laptop pre-check online that must be done in order for me to get access into their system.

This leads me to the question, is there any way to hack into my registry somehow to make it look like I have Vista Premium even though I don't? I don't need the extra bells and whistles that Premium offers, and I'm sure the school doesn't necessarily need it either as I was able to survive the previous semester with a rented laptop that has XP Home in it. Please let me know if I'm violating anything here. Thanks.

Can't say for sure, but it may have to do with networking capability of the OS. Honestly, I don't know of any way to create a spoof BIOS. Have you addressed the question to your school IT gurus?
