Dx 10 will come out about the same time as vista I believe. Don't worry, if you're used to being 1 gen behind, the X850 is a very respectable vid card to have

Do you think I should wait till Black Friday to see if theres a better deal I can pick up? Or is this hot even 6 months from now?

Also...if I go with the upgrade, do you think upgrading just pci e video cards in the future will do or will the cpu bottleneck the gpu in near time? EH

The x850xt is a good buy, especially if you're into ATI-centric games. Moving to PCI-E is a good move, because there's been a lot of gouging of AGPers these days. Although I've seen a few decent deals for AGP parts recently, I'd still recommend moving away from it when you upgrade your video card.

i'd avoid ecs personally, having bought one in the past and it died after 3/4 years. An ASRock would be a better option. Why are you looking at skt 754 & not skt 939 ?

I would also avoid ECS boards - they're on the "bad cheap" side of "cheap". And I can't see why you'd get a 754 board either. There are plenty of reasonably priced ($50-60) 939 and AM2 boards.

What kind of question is that?
My mom has gone for years and years without upgrading. So based on that... You'll need to upgrade again in the fall of 2010 or spring 2011.

Yes but for those boards I would also have to get a new cpu...
