Upgrade to eVGA GTX 280?

Hello All

I currently have a eVGA 9800 GX2. I see the awesome benchmarks of the GTX 280, and was curious if an upgrade would be worth it? I know that in some games the GX2 is close/same as GTX 280, but all in all, I see the GTX 280 beating the GX2. Plus if I get the 280 now, I would possibly be able to Step Up within 3 months...

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks,

When the GTX 280 first came out, it was slower than the 9800GX2 in games that scaled well in SLi. I am not sure how that has changed with current drivers updates.

In my opinion the answer to any "is it worth it to upgrade from X to Y" question is always....well is X not living up to your expectations? If the 9800GX2 is playing your games the way you like for them to be played then it probably isn't worthwhile.

Dont do it. 9800GX2 is a great card. You would have to be a wizard in order to tell the difference between a 9800GX2 and 280 in most games.

We are about to see another war between ATi and nV in Q1. I would keep my money on the sideline until then.

I hear the 9800gx2 is has bad stuttering in some game compared to the gtx 280 I also was going to say that you can use 2 monitors with the 280 but now you can do that with the 9800gx2... so I'd probably wait until the new cards are here.

I agree, hold on to the gx2 for now. There is going to be a major gpu war in 2009 from what I've seen/heard, probably two releases by both camps. Think die shrink in q1 and next gen in q3, very similar to this year. Now that amd is competitive again, expect good prices, too.
