I currently have a p4 3.0 800 fsb 1mb with a MSI P915 combo and 2gigs of ddr 2 Turbo PQI Dual channel with a 7800GT.

I was going to just buy a Mobo with SLI and get another 7800GT

OR

Get a Amd Setup CPU/MOBO/Memory.

But im not sure what to do should i get the additional Video card? or should i get the amd setup??

THANKS!

That system will last for quite some time still.. Unless you absolutely want to be up to date with what is out in the hardware world..

Personally, I don't think that SLI is worth the extra cash. You have one 7800GT, and that is fine. Also, the system that you have now is pretty decent, and should last you for a quite a while yet. However, if you really want to upgrade and go with AMD, I would suggest an EPoX 9NPA+ Ultra motherboard and a A64 X2 3800+.

Your ram and gpu are good.

3.0g aint that great for games, however.

If I were on a budget, and that was my rig that I wanted to upgrade, I would definitley get a new motherboard and processor.

get dfi lanparty mboard with sli ($200) abnd an opteron 165 ($300). major boost is performance and espoecially multitasking and you can overclock that opteron to hell. (and it will still produce less heat than your p4)

hmm totals to around 600$ with the A64 X2 3800+ , EPoX 9NPA+ Ultra motherboard and 2 gigs of ram is it really worth it or should i wait?

if you wait for Sockt AM2 you could keep your DDR2 sticks. But that'll be some time, and won't help you now.

For gaming SLI would be far better than upgrading your CPU.

If you got the bank, go for it.

Get the Opteron dual core 1.8g x 2 instead of the X2, if the price is right.

DFI would be my first choice, but the Epox would be number 2. It's a good board.

My suggestion for an inexpensive overclocking 2 gig kit is the GSKILL PC4000 @$197. I ordered me some last night and am waiting on it and my Opteron.

3.0 intel is just not enough for gaming. I know, because sadly, Ive got one. SLI and a 3.0 intel would be a bad choice.

Better FP in fear and cod2 and future games.

I think you'd be better off:

1. overclocking your current cpu
2. selling 7800GT when G71 or R580 comes out and getting those.
3. keep the current ram because you can just reuse it later when you upgrade to AM2 for example and it's DDR2.

Also future games are almost entirely GPU limited, which means upgrading to a faster cpu will provide you with almost no benefit (except slightly higher min framerates). You need a faster videocard.

How about another 7800gt so that when the new cards come out i can sell both?

Wait for either Conroe or AM2 and then reuse those DDR2 sticks - no point putting them to waste. That's if they are good 2GB of RAM?

Either way don't upgrade until you start seeing reason to. Overclock your cpu in the meantime.

You'd then need a new mobo right? And can your PSU handle another 7800GT?
