Upgrade to AMD 6970

Hi

Been thinking of upgrading my 6970 for quite some time now.
The release and pricing of the Nvidia 970 looks very tempting 😀

Would be my first Nvidia card since getting a GeForce FX 5800 so years ago 😛

Doing gaming at 1080p, would you think it would be worth the money to invest in this card?

Cheers

A 970 would mop the floor with 6970s. It's probably 3 times faster, with similar power usage. It's absolutely a worthwhile upgrade.

You don't have some slow dual core CPU or something, do you?

Running a i7-2700k

Had the rig for about 2 years now and only recently with a few of the games I've played have I noticed the 6970 starting to lag.

What would be the AMD equivalent in price/performance compared to the 970?

Having not had an Nvidia card for such a long time, is driver support fairly same same between the them and AMD?

Hehe, I came here to ask that same question, though from a more cost conscious perspective (I like unlocking/overclocking used parts and currently own the 6970 that used to be a 6950).

Anyway, the 970 will surely be a worthy upgrade, but I wonder if one should wait a bit longer until the next generation of graphic cards that will surely be made from TSMCs 20nm process instead of 28nm. A 28nm-based card when Intel is ramping up 14nm chips doesn't feel quite right. Maybe it's just me, though...

you have a good cpu. the gtx 970 is a fantastic card. cool and quiet. overclocks like crazy (1.5 Ghz+) . 3 times as fast as HD 6970.
