Hi,

Like the setup i have right now,
A64 3200+, DDR1 1.5GB ram, Asus S393 motherboard...

is it a good idea to upgrade to a AM2 3200+, DDR2 2GB ram configuration?

The system is mostly for gaming.. so is a newer CPU will gimme more juicy for the 7900GT? and much smooth in gameplay? seems like when i play Ghost Recon(Advance warfighter) the gameplay still lag once in a while..

I wouldn't bother .. the AM2 3200+ will be the same to a bit slower performing, assuming you can get the same overclock out of it & if not it'll be a lot slower

If you were building a new A64 system today I'd say go with AM2, but for you theres really no point.

Btw, I see you have 1.5gb's RAM ... what motherboard/chipset are you using & what is the memory config?

Upgrade? Try sidegrade 939-->AM2 = no performance increase right now . If you're looking for an upgrade, wait for the after conroe price cuts and stick an X2 or dual core opty in there, or get conroe itsself. Depends if you wanna keep your RAM, as conroe also uses DDR2.

But would an upgrade to an X2 lead to an increase in performance for gaming purposes? 939 to X2 that is.

not unless you regularly have, or would like to have, background apps running that would use the 2nd core.

I have almost the same setup as you minus 0.5GB of RAM. I wouldn't upgrade to an 3200+ AM2 setup since you'd be repurchasing a MB and RAM for minimal performance gains.
