Go for it, you'll see a nice boost in multi-tasking. That's about it. 3800 is nice for overclocking too.

they are gone? if thats true, there goes that idea i had this morning. i'm running s939 a64 3200 @stock 2.0Ghz for prime95 24/7, with an agp 6800 vanilla, so i talked myself out of the x2 and a pcie mobo this morning since i havent been complaining enough about performance on my computer to warrant major upgrades.

I just grabbed one (a 939 dual core - not from Newegg) to upgrade my 3200+ with.

X2 939's are going OOS and up in price a bit atm due to lack of supply. Definitely worth jumping on any deals.

Yeah, the one I originally posted is the Manchester core for $115 -- that one is still sold out. Your link points to the Toledo core, for $119. I didn't see that one before -- maybe they just added it? No comments listed either.

So ... the obvious question ... what's the difference between Manchester and Toledo? Is this still a good deal?

great deal... one night's binge drinking price to double the performance of your cpu... i'm going to pick up a couple more to top off my home pc's... as i mentioned previously, the one i just got runs nice @2.5ghz...

and get an arctic freezer 64 pro over @ ewiz for $25 shipped to cool it...

and shipping is not free, but a better list price at ewiz... chip

combined with the af 64 pro it's a nice deal...

Is an X2 really worth it for anything other than mulit-tasking???
What upcomming games utilize both cores? Will Quake Wars Enemy Territory use both cores?

Ive got a AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego 2.2GHz right not not even o/c'ed and I'm happy with it for COH. To me, theres no point in upgrading to a dual core unless theres a significant bump in gaming. Im not into working on my thesis or running SETI while I game.

Im guessing there will still be price drops on the remaining opties come April.

i wouldn't bet on 939 opty price drops, but time will tell...

and for the umptheenth million time, supreme commander will run like cr@p on your system, but runs nicely on an x2 @ around 2.5ghz... no supcom, then your system is okay for a while longer (until the next game comes out)...

hmmmm, thanks but I never asked about Supreme Commander. I tried the SC demo and thought it was complete crap. Must have been my system :)

since virtually all new sw (drivers, games, etc...) of any quality will be coded to take advantage of multiple cores, if available, the chances are that your pc will be left behind in the next year or so... supreme commander being the firstish of the new guard...
