Upgrade to 5850?

Hi all

Just wondering if it would be worth the $125 for a Powercolor 5850 I can get as an upgrade from my XFX 5770?

I play mostly FPS such as Clear Sky and Metor 2033 as well as FSX and DCS Warthog.

Thanks!

Depends upon how dissatisfied you are with the 5770. From looking at Anandtech Bench, it looks like at very high framerates there's not more than 25% or so improvment, but at lower framerates where it matters much more you're looking at more like a 50% jump.

If you can get a 5850 for $125 and then sell your 5770 for ~$75 then it would be a worthwhile investment.

Exactly. And what's important about that increase is that 30fps -> 50fps is *much* more noticeable and important than 60fps -> 80fps, for example. Your resolution is slightly higher than mine, but I'm extremely please with how my 5850 has performed for the last 1.5 years. Do realize that newer games being released this fall will certainly tax a 5850.

I have a sapphire radeon hd 5850 xtreme and it's a great video card. I went from a powercolor radeon hd 5770 and I think it has been a good upgrade.
