Upgrade timing? Better to wait?

I've currently got a DFI 875B MB, Intel 3.2Hgz, 2gigs 3200Crucial RAM and an ATI X850XT video card. Overall I am pretty pleased with the setup, though BF2 and CS2 run a bit laggy beyond 1280x1024 with any AA beyond 2x on.

I'm considering an moving to a DFI SLI-DR Expert, AMD 64 4000 and starting with one nVidia GPU (haven't decided which) before adding a 2nd GPU, also keeping my current RAM till the pocket can afford better.

I am primarily considering the upgrade for titles such as Oblivion, Vanguard Saga of Heroes, etc. and while I could probley get by pretty well with my current setup, the MB is pretty much tapped as far as I can go with CPU/GPU as far as I know.

From looking around, I like the reviews/user feedback on the DFI nF4 SLI board and would consider it a pretty good start, but the boards been out for a solid bit and I can't really locate any info on what's coming down the pipe to see if that board combo will hold me for the next 8-12months.

Any suggestions or feedback?
