Upgrade time!

Okay the stats for my previous computer are in my sig but let me reiterate:

A64 3500+ 90nm
Chaintech VNF4 Ultra
BFG 6800GT OC PCIe
74Gb Raptor
1GB PDP Patriot PC3200 with XBL
Ultra X-connect 500W
Audigy 2 ZS Platinum
Logitech Z-680's
Coolermaster Stacker
Dell 2005 FPW

So like I said its upgrade time, for two reasons: 1) My brother wants to be able to actually run Bf2 and thus wants to buy my stuff, and 2) I mean, who doesn't like to upgrade?

I've already replaced the power supply with a neoh 430 and the case with the wonderful p180. I will be selling my old case, power supply, cpu, ram, and motherboard to my brother.

I will get about $350 for that, and I have $400 saved up for an upgrade. So without further adieu here is the question:

I am between a couple of items mainly the Athlon X2 3800+, 4000+, or 4200+.

Secondly the amount and type of ram, I've been looking at the Patriot 2gb DDR2 800 with 4-4-4 timings at $224.

and lastly, although probably most importantly the motherboard. I really like the Asus m2n-e as I know I will never need SLI, but am worried about the issue with 2.1v memory.

That is what I have been thinking, but basically you have ~$700 to replace the mboard, memory, and cpu in my system. If you think cutting back on one of those items in favor of upgrading some other component let me know. Thanks in advance guys.

Edit: Also I know about the july 23rd price cut, and the actual buying of these won't be taking place until august most likely.

There is no reason that computer as it is now cannot run BF2. I run BF2 on medium settings at 1280 1024 with the following computer

3200+ Athlon 64
Radeon 9800 pro
1 gig PC2700 RAM

So, there is no reason you can't run it on your computer. I don't really think you would be best served by replacing the processor. You are not CPU limited in games right now. You would do better by adding a gig of ram as you said for Bf2 to smooth things out a bit or upgrading the graphics card to a newer model(however, your graphics card is perfectly capable of BF2)

You are absolutely right, my computer runs bf2 absolutely perfectly. But my brothers does not, seeing as he has a sempron 3000+ and a fx 5200 and 512mb ram. Thus he wants to buy mine so he can play it.

ohhhhhh, that didn't come accross clear in your post. I thought he was using yours to play BF2 and was saying it couldn't play it.

In that case what I would recommend for a new PC:

AMD Athlon 64 3800+ X2
Sapphire 1800XT
Motherboard - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131013
2 gigs of DDR2 RAM

Sorry I can't be more specific right now, I am on my work computer and there are two many things blocked.

Hmm, don't think I can afford to upgrade the video card right now would be my only point.

You're right...
It is time for you to upgrade. Read some of these PS threads.
