Currently I'm running:
Abit K-7 lite mobo
athlon xp 1800+
2X256 pc2100 ddr
Geforce 2 ti
40GB 7200rpm HD, seagate I believe

Amazingly this thing is able to run UT2004 at medium settings 1280X960 pretty smoothly. Just thought i'd throw that in since it kind of suprised me. The geforce 2 ti was a nice card.

Anyway here's what I'm considering:

An Nforce4 board with SLI. ~$150 - I was originally going to go dfi lanparty and socket 754, but I recently decided to wait it out for the N4. SLI will be nice because I can slap a 6600 GT in there and 6 months or so down the road, if i decide I need some more power, I can put in a second one ( at an even cheaper price by then) and not have to get rid of my old card. The integrated firewall, Nvidia OC'ing program, etc are nice as well.

Athlon 64 3000+ socket 939 ~$190

Venus 12 HSF + artic 5 thermal paste ~$43
I've heard the fan is very loud on the highest setting. When turned down from 5500 to 4000 though, I hear it looses only 1-2C but quiets down significantly. Either way I don't want a jet engine...but I'm not that concerned with noise overall.

Thermaltake tsunami /w 400W PS http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=11-133-138&depa=0 ~$140
OR
Thermaltake xaser /w 420W PS http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=11-133-125&depa=0 ~$146

I was sure about the tsunami at first. I really like the look of of it, and the cooling system looked pretty nice, but when I went to get the link for this post I saw the xaser. I don't like the look quite as much, but it looks like it'd be a little better in terms of cooling. Most of the reviews I saw gave the tsunami pretty high ratings, haven't seen anything on the Xaser though. I'm open to suggestions here and am a little worried about the P/S, but I really don't want to spend anymore than 150 on Case+P/S

Geforce 6600GT ~$200
This seems to be the best performance/price card. If leadtek has a one out by the time the N4 boards come out I'll likely go that route, as leadtek has always put out good overclockers at a reasonable price in my experience.

Seagate 200GB 7200RPM Serial ATA HD ~$109

OCZ Performance Series Dual Channel Kit 184 Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-3500 - Retail ~$210
Cas Latency: 2.5-3-3-7 http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=20-146-950&depa=1

I'm hoping to be able to hit a 266 overclock (+33%), putting the CPU at 2.4GHz. I'm also hoping that memory will be able to handle 266 as well, It's the cheaper OCZ stuff, but OCZ nonetheless so I think it'll be all right.

I realize it's probably going to be about a month( right?) before the SLI boards start coming out, so prices will change and some better deals might come around, but how does this look for a guideline? Input is appreciated :)

I just realized newegg has bumped the socket 939 3000+ up $35 or so :(

Once again considering going 2800+ with a vnf3 or lanparty. My only question is if it's going to be possible to hit 266 fsb, memory bus overclock with the chaintech?

Can't really say anything bad about your list except your case but that's a matter of personal preference.

Probably not a good estimate on time or money for SLI, but I like the rest of your choices, I will be going pretty close to all that, but the NForce 4 SLI wont be out for a couple months, the inquirer suggested that it would come out before christmas and when it does come out it will be around 200... Im gonna go for the first solid ocing pcie board with a 6600gt, and then maybe sell it and trade up if I hear good things about SLI.

Good call though, thats a lot like the setup im getting :)
