Hi all new to the forums. Looks like a great site here. Upgrading my video card since my old Geforce 4 can only handle low doom 3 settings and everything else coming out from here will require upgrading as well. Any ways any suggestions out there I'm looking at mid-range stuff i.e. Radeon 9800 Pro and Nvidia 5900 line. Found a great deal with good reviews on newegg on AOpen 5900XT 128mb, 256 bit, anyone use this line? Any suggeestions would be great.

I say if you want to get a new card now, get the 9800 Pro, they can be found for $200 or lower.

However you may want to wait for the 6600GT, since it is rumored to be 20% faster than a 9800 Pro for about the same price.

I'd wait on the 6600GT until we start seeing some reviews and comparisons. The 6600GT does look promising, but I'm not sure what its performance will be compared to a 9800 Pro. 6600GT's are suppose to retail @ $199, but if manufacturers can't make enough of them, we might see prices higher than retail like we have with the 6800, 6800GT, and the 6800 Ultras.

6600 Preview.

If you need one now, and can afford it get a 6800GT..

If you can wait a couple months, hold out for the 6600's, which might be more in your price range...

Avoid the flawed 9800's to avoid headaches.
