The Corsair 300R has vents at the top and you can install water cooling. But the H100v2 is way overkill for the G3258 even when overclocked.

And you will need a new Skylake CPU for that. The i5-6600K should be fine.

I highly doubt that you will see any difference between the boards.
Because what you say? I have not had that brand. I've heard it's bad. I would like to know why that, and another?

I'm using an ASRock motherboard myself. Three years in use with no problems.

I think the Asus Z170-A is an excellent choice. H100i v2 is such a powerful cooler (though a bit noisy) that you will want a board with a robust, high quality power delivery system. Z170-A fits the bill, with that board you can use the full potential of the H100i and get a nice beefy overclock without worrying about whether the motherboard will hold together in the long term =)

As for Asrock as a brand being "bad", I don't believe it. You can get a perfectly good board from any manufacturer these days, you just have to know what you need from a board. In this case the Z170 Pro4 is a little bit too cheap and cheaply built, it's not optimal for taking full advantage of the H100i.

Since your HDD is from 2007, you might want to consider replacing it. They do wear out and good size HDDs are cheap nowdays.

Why not get an i7 for the z97 board instead of having to buy the new skylake setup?
