Hi all, this sounds like a dumb question, and I am pretty sure I know the answer but just wanted to check in with the experts first.

I have an HP g60t-200 laptop, and it has a T6400 Intel mobile processor. I want to upgrade to a faster chip with a bigger cache. I am looking at the T9600, which is the same chipset, wattage, codename, instruction set, etc.

I should be able to swap it out with no issues right? Am i missing anything obvious? The only thing I could think of is heat, but since they are both 35W chips, this shouldnt be a problem I think!

The one noticable difference is the bus speed... the t6400 is 800 MHz and the t9400 is 1066 MHz

Anyone with a definitive answer before I drop the cash?

Here is a link to the comparison of the two chips at Intel

Thanks in advance!

It might work, it'll depend on the BIOS support.

How much are you looking at spending on the new CPU? It might not really be worth it tbh.

I am seeing one for $99 on eBay. I don't want to spend too much either, I know the upgrade won't be that immense (performance wise)

I'll check the BIOS version and see what it supports.

Alright, so the BIOS is version F.65 -- I verified it is the latest one from HP, but I cannot find a list of what it supports?
