Upgrade sound card, need help please.

I have a Compag Presario 5240. It has on board sound and I lost the manual. I cannot find how to disable the sound on board so I can put a new sound card in there. Right now it has conflict between the two sound cards. However, it was working well before without having to disable the on board sound.
Please help.

Normally you disable the onbaord sound with a jumper on the board or through entering the bios at bootup (hitting del key right after ram check) and going to a sub menu like pci configuration....usually the 3rd or 4th submenu...
