Here's my current rig:

AMD Athlon 64 3400 (powerhouse)
1 gig ram
Geforce 6800 (Vanilla)
Viewsonic VX924 (fast LCD)
Asus AGP motherboard (DAMNIT)

Here's the situation. I did a whole new build into everything you see listed just shortly before everything went to PCI-E. I'm so ticked cause I wanna upgrade my video card, but the agp cards available don't really impress me. I really don't wanna have do a whole new build again cause my cpu , ram, etc more than get the job done. I can only game at 1280x1024 as that's all my monitor will go. What do you guys think? Should I settle on a gs card now, build a pci-e system (UUGHGHG), or wait it out for the AM2 socket stuff?

Is your cpu s754? if so they make tons of pci-e motherboards for that. Most people here would tell you its like upgrading a dying platform but im here to tell you different. s754 is everybit as good as 939 in terms of performance, so really if you bought a pci-e motherboard and a high end gpu you wouldnt be limited in anyway, and could probably keep your rig for another year or two running games beatifully, granted you video card has the power to. Add another gig of ram and you can bump up to a high-end system easily, please wtv you do dont settle for a 7800gs in agp, you owe it to your self to maximize your system. I recommend you getting a 7900gt for around $300 or an x1800xt 512mb for around $250. Oh and build your system NOW its not going to get any cheaper, AM2 isnt all that great. Conroe ftw! but seeing you already have a 3400+ BUY NOW!!!!!

Hey thanks a lot you guys, I wasn't even aware they made PCI-E motherboards for s754, that definitely changes things.

You can get a 7800GS for around $250 or maybe get a 6800 ultra or ATI 850 off of eBay. otherwise a PCIe motherboard may be your next step
