Upgrade Small Business to Windows 7...

For a small business that has a planned future of a maximum of 10years. Is windows 7 worth the upgrade from Vista? I know that you can't wait forever because something will always be coming out. But would a wait for Win8 worth it or will windows 7 pro provide everything they would need for that time frame. To put it in perspective they still have a Win2K server running.

I appreciate your input. Thank you.

If they have a set number of users, I would look into gettting some Volume Licenses with Software Assurance. That way you can have an exact dollar amount to fit in the budget every year and also get upgrade rights whenever a new OS is released.

I would think so, but not to upgrade current equipment, just replace as you go. Keep in mind, computers should have a life span, just like a car. If you didn't get a free upgrade to win 7, then you are at least 2 years old comp. Add another 10, you are working on a 12 year old machine. Doable,, but not the best scenario. businesses costs are always the labor and the data on the machines. The machine itself is minimal.
Now a days, just buy the cheapest you can find for like $500 somewhere in the middle of that, and you will be fine, you would even get the new monitor, keyboard. If keeping minimum costs is the topmost concern, then just do the top half performers, and leave the others be. My vote is don't bother if upgrading the OS is the only thing on the table.
