As soon as I get my credit cards in the mail I plan on getting a new system, however, I'm not sure if the specs I designed (about a month ago) are a sensible choice now. For instance, I wanted to get a 1.4Ghz Athlon, but AMD has the Palomino set to release in two or three weeks; My original MOBO was an EPoX 8K7A+, but now I hear VIA has some new chipset set to coincide with Palomino, then there is the Audigy Soundcard and ATi RADEON 8500 DV. Iam still undecided on the whole OS thing, I like WIN98SE because I know it has no problems with anything. I've used Win2k at the computer clusters here are school and there are various problems with it as far as web content goes (streaming video on WMP) and possibly some shareware files might not work. Will ATi even support Win2k properly with RADEON 8500? WIndows XP looks inticing, but I know I should always wait until Microsoft releases a revision of their new OS before taking the plunge. Any tips? Should I wait until October to buy parts or just get what I have now (only to wish I had waited after seeing benchmarks on the web come November)?
