Upgrade Question

Greetings Forum,
I am looking to burn $400-500 on a new motherboard/processor/ram upgrade. a) Where should I look for the best deals? b) Should I be looking for AMD or Pentium? I have a GeForce 4 4400 and a Sound Blaster Live. Except for a new power source, once I make this upgrade I should be good to go. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Newegg is one of the best places to buy hardware. Great prices and excellent service.

As for AMD or Pentium, it depends on if you want to overclock or not. If you don't plan on overclocking, AMD will be the best bang for the buck. If you plan on overclocking get a P4. I'm not too familiar with P4 chipsets, but as for AMD I would probably get a KT333 or wait for the NForce2 chipset.

I agree with hopeless on all that. To find out farther on P4 chipsets, Anand did a i845e round up here. Toms Hardware did a i845G round up here.

I don't know the difference between the two, perhaps someone here will enlighten more on that subject.
