I'm a newbie. So forgive me if I ask stupid questions.
I have an Intel D845PESV Motherboard with Celeron 1.7 Ghz 478 pin Processor and 256 memory(don't know the brand.) I want to start upgrading these with gaming capability one at a time. Thought I would start with replacing CPU then Memory (1GB) then Motherboard. My video card is a Nvidia GeForce FX5700 LE which I think would do for awhile.

Also, does this motherboard support overclocking, dual channel, or dual channel overclocking.

Does doing it this way make sense, and if so what Cpu, memory, and Motherboard would you recommend.

Thanks

Thanks

I would do motherboard first, then you will be able to handle a much better proc and memory down the line, but another stick of 256 RAM would do wonders for you.

It all depends on how much you can spend what upgrade path to take...

You could upgrade the memory and the CPU and keep the motherboard. That board supports up to a 533Mhz bus, so you could do any of the P4 "B" processors. You'd have to stick with the northwood core CPU's. For memory you can just get some PC2700 DDR memory. Depending on the type of games you play, you may need to replace the video card.

You could always upgrade the motherboard and get an i865/875 based board and then do the CPU and RAM later.

Another option is to replace everything at once.

Another option would be to go with a new CPU and RAM and then upgrade to a new motherboard but I wouldn't go that route.

hehe, I like how you go from upgrading a few things to basically building a new system...

But if you have the money, why not right?

as far as case goes, Antec, Coolmaster, Lian-Li, Silverstone... at least that's the answers you will find here
