Have you considered the i5 3570k? It's better than the 2500k due to ivy bridge architecture, thus 10% faster ipc and native support for dual channel ddr3 1600. You probably won't get as high OCs, but the chip will perform just as fast at lower clock speeds. (ie, 3.6ghz ivy = 4ghz sandy or something to that extent).

The motherboards you suggest are all overkill imo. I would buy the Asrock z77 extreme4 it will give you over 90% of the performance and overclock ability of those proclaimed "premium" boards for a fraction of the cost. Use the money saved to improve the graphics card and invest in a good aftermarket cooling solution. There is really almost no reason to ever spend more than $200 for a motherboard, especially for gaming.

But If you really wanted to milk every last mhz, that asus maximus gene should be the best of the three you suggest.

lol , not a poem i just like my message clear ;P

That was clear? Type like a normal person next time.

To partly answer your question, I dont follow motherboards much but usually it just depends on which chipset has the best features you want and/or features needed for ocing. Do research on which are stable and which companies have good warranty etc...
