Upgrade Problems

I just bought an Epox 8KHA+ mated with an Athlon XP1600 and a stick of Crucial 256mb DDR PC2100 (not ECC) as an upgrade. Got everything installed and flipped the power on and the post code on the LED on the mb goes straight to C1, which according to the manual, is memory detection. It just sits at C1 and beeps...blank screen and all. Of course I checked to make sure the stick was seated properly, tried all 3 dimm slots, went to the store and bought another stick of 256mb DDR PC2100 in case the Crucial was bad...still get the C1 code. I've taken everything out, made sure the cpu/heatsink/cable connections were good, etc. and reinstalled everything...still get the C1 code. Even when I unplug everything but the power connector, I get the C1 code.

I HATE THE C1 CODE!!!! 🙂

Has anyone else with an Epox experienced this or have any ideas?
I'm thinking it's maybe a bad motherboard now but I don't have any other AMD's/mobo's to swap'em with to find out. The board is getting power (300w power supply) and all the fans and stuff are working. Just won't boot up.

Thanks for any replies.

sounds like your system may have a short.

Take everything out of the case again. Make sure your mobo has 10 brass stand-off screws. If there is one extra screw in the wrong place it will short the mobo and prevent POST.

Try putting your mobo outside your case and connecting to a powersupply and then see if it boots. Otherwise it may be your power supply.
