will we be able to update our systems to quadcore with the current generation of motherboards in these 2 cases:

1) AMD AM2
2) INTEL C2D

im about to get a new computer and im worried about the components i need and that will last the longer... ive been using amd for a long time but im looking forward to build an intel machine (6600 conroe) but dont want to spend money in a new mobo next year to upgrade to quadcore...

well all mobos which support core 2 duo will support intels future quad core cpu's provided they are LGA 775
Not sure about the AMD side of things.
But keep in mind.Even by Q1 2007,not many applications will take advantage of having 4 cores.Even dual-cores aren't being fully utilized now days.

I heard the same thing about Intel too. Current Conroe mobos suppose to support quad core. Not sure if AMD AM2 mobos will do the same for their 4x4s or whatever they calling their quad-cores. AMD went to AM2 for future upgrade path so if they dont alot of AMD folks gonna be mad I'm thinking. We dont even know which quad-core is going to be better yet. Intel's or AMD's? After seeing what Intel has done with Conroe I'm kinda leaning towards Intel but I wouldnt count AMD out yet. Have to wait and see.
