Hey all, I currently have this system:

AMD 4000+ 2.4Ghz 939
DFI Lanparty Ultra-D
2 x 512 OCZ Value RAM
2 x 512 Kingston Value RAM
Thermaltake Purepower 500W
eVGA 8800GTS 320MB
2 IDE HD's
Raidmax X-1

I am at a dilemna as to how to best upgrade this rig. My goal in the end is to have a cool, rock-solid rig that is as future proof as possible. My budget is 500 dollars or under, lower is better. The case, PSU, HD's, and DVDRW drive, and graphics card will be reused. What would be the best way to go about this?

Go with the usual suspects, IP35-E mobo (NewEgg), E2140 CPU (Microcenter), and some cheap 2x1GB SuperTalent DDR2-667 (Ewiz).

I would recommend abit IP35 ($100 at Mwave after $25MIR), e2180 (higher multiplier for easier OC) and the generic Mwave 2x1GB DDR2-667. Just go to mwave.com, search for IP35, pick the model that sells for $120 and add the cpu and memory from the drop-down menus. Should cost ~$225 after the rebate and should easily overclock to 3GHz or faster on stock cooling. This will also leave you the upgrade path to Penryn dual/quad core chips next year if you decide you need more cpu power at that point.

That's not a bad thang yah got goin' on right there. It's a little long in the tooth but what jumps out at me - no SATAII HDs.

What are yah playing with that 8800gts? And even with the mixed ram you might be able to get 2.7GHz - - - 2.8GHGz if you're lucky. That's one primo s939 mobo ... Loosen your timings and give it a crank :)

Edit - the abit IP35 has a single IDE - only 2 devices - and it's $90 at the Egg
