My last upgrade was from a Celeron 300a to the 633.

What CPU should I buy next?

I noticed that I can get a 1 gig PIII for $84. Is this a reasonanble option? Can I overclock this cpu? Will my mobo support it?

I bought a P3 1000 slot 1 for my BH6.
Right now it is running at 1.24ghz ;)
THe BX6 mobo is a better overclocker than the BH6 so you might be able to get more out of it.
There are pretty good deals on the chip at compgeeks and other places right now. You should be able to get the cpu for less than $100.

that depends on what version you have now
you should find out what your current bios is then go to the abite site and look it up

Hey Wiz guy--are you going to tell him that that PIII 1000 burned up your MSI board, thats why it's now in the BH6??? These old boards may not be able to supply the current for this CPU. Riprorin----beware of free advice. RRRR

Only because he plugged the HS fan into the mobo header...

It depends on if its a e or eb p3 (100mhz vs 133mhz bus) if its a 133bus, its not going to clock much. Max Ive seen is 133 buss p3 800's hitting 900 or so. So you can imagine on your cpu what the results would be on your potential 1ghz

yeah, I plugged two big sunon fans into the fan headers on the MSI mobo - it ran for 24 hours.

Others have blown out BX mobos too, so it should go without saying that YMMV and you do anything at your own risk.
However since you make such a point of it: "YMMV and anything you do is at your own risk"

BTW, it's still running perfectly at 1240mhz in my BH6 mobo. I have the fans connected to the power supply instead of the mobo.
