I have a C2Duo cpu (E6750 I think) running on an Nvidia 650i.

Assuming I want more gaming power and more general desktop speed, what is my best upgrade path in the next 6 months?

I'm thinking that the Q9650 is the end of the line for Socket 775. It's $334 at Newegg, which is very reasonable for such a powerful quad. I have no idea how it works/overclocks on your mobo though.

EDIT: Apparently this CPU won't work in your board, sorry. It looks like a Q6600 is the best you can do

hmm prolly a bit more than I wanted to spend. How big of a speed boost did you see when you upgraded to that? What did you have before?

Havey you OC'd your CPU?

Does Adjusting your CPU Up/Down have an impact on the games you are running?
This one way to tell you if you are CPU or GPU bound.

Just O/C your CPU to 3.4 or 3.6 Ghz, should be fine. Or buy a Q6600 and overclock that too 3.4 or 3.6 ghz. Problem solved.

Yep, he should be able to do a Q6600 or a 45nm dual-core, but otherwise would need a new board.
