Hey folks,

So, one of my clients has a gaming system that I last touched about 18 months ago.

He's got a 3500+ Venice - (never played any games that took advantage of dual until now) 4 gigs of DDR400, 7800GTX SLI, and a very nice Gigabyte nForce 4 SLI motherboard (forget which one exactly). Also an Antec 550W PSU, and some other typical bits.

He's got a 21" CRT for now, but I will probably sell him a 24" LCD.

He's wanting to get into Call of Duty 4, and is itching for an upgrade.

I think his existing system would be okay, but I'd like him to have a dual core, and maybe a new video card too. He doesn't want to do a full platform shift - yet.

I'm looking at 939 CPUs, and they're damned expensive. I can get a 3600+ X2 for ~ $55, but it would be slower single threaded. Who knows...

Video wise (since this is the VC forum), I think an 8800GTS 512 might be in order :)

Would this be significantly faster than the 7800GTX SLI setup he currently has? Even if it's not THAT much faster, he can migrate these 7800GTX cards down to his spare boxes, which currently have 6800 ultra SLI (otherwise identical to this box, save 2 GB of RAM) and a 6600gt respectively.

A full upgrade to a Core 2 Duo platform would be ideal, but it's a little out of the budget.

What do you guys think?
