Upgrade: P4C 3.6 to X2 4400+

Hi everyone,

I can upgrade my P4C 3.6 w/ 1gig to a X2 4400+ w/ 2gigs.

It will cost me $382 to do the switch..

Is there a big diff. between these processors. I do programming , encoding, light video editing.

The main reason I'm considering this is because someone want's my P4C processor. (which I've had Zero problems)

I like the fact that the new X2 is a 64bit processor, I already have 2 - 3500+'s ..

If I get the X2 4400+ , I think it should be easy to oc'd to 2.4Ghz w/ 2 - 1024 Patriot sticks of ram. I really want the 2gigs also because in Linux the more ram I have the faster alot of things run..

Anyway, what do you think ??

Regards,
Jose

With your kind of uses, the X2 would be the way to go, if you're bent on using AMD. You could try the Pentium D series and save some money along the way. 🙂

You won't be getting your money's worth, that's for sure. Judging by your signature, you're not necessarily into the value, rather than having the latest, so go for it.

edit it might speed up the encoding a bit though, so who knows. IMO, not worth it for nearly 400 bucks.

Thanks guys,

Oh well, I've decided to get rid of my P4C 3.0 system and replace is w/

A64 3700+ w/ 2gigs of ram & a 6800GT OC ... I'm keeping the P4 3.6 system...

I figured it's best to wait to upgrade when prices come down and when I could double my current cpu performance ..

Regards,
Jose

I said I decided against the X2 for >$600, but I will sell my 3.06C w/ 1 gig & a 6600gt to upgrade to a 3700+ w/ 2 gigs & a 6800gt..

That should be a big improvement....

Regards,
Jose
