I currently have an AMD Athlon 64 3500 (OCed to surpass an FX55), a GeForce 7900GT(may get another one for SLI) that will soon be Vmodded, 2x512MB of Corsair XMS PC3200 RAM, and a Gigabyte GA-K8N-Pro SLI. I'm wondering if I should take advantage of the X2 price drops and get a new proc with another 2x512MB of RAM or wait until Jan-Feb '07 to build a new system.

Thanx in advance.

I have Athlon 64 3200, 1GB RAM and X850XT graphic card, and i asked myself the same question! To upgrade, or not to upgrade, thats the question!
I think i will wait for next year, see what Quad processors can offer to me and anyway, if i dont buy at least the Core2Duo prices will have dropped a bit more (even the x2)

Its up to you now :). I think that you actual setup with a 2nd graphic card is great (probably 2GB ram aswell hehe ;))

you could get the x2 for dual core and oc it. you would have some minor performance increases from it too.

I'd just wait and build a C2D system once this initial "craze" wears off and kinks in the motherboards and other hardware get straightened out. It's not really worth it to you right now, it seems like your system is fast enough to get you by until then, unless you need the latest and greatest now. :)

I've upgraded while prices on certain items were reasonable.
I went with a 4800+ for my video rig. Got more HDDs for all my computers.
Bought a new 22" Viewsonic, a ATI FireGL for my FC5 machine and some other necessities.
All of these for <$800.

With the high price of RAM nowadays, it doesn't make sense to build a new computer.
Plus with the price fixing thingy on RAM prices, you'll be crazy to pay $200 for 1GB High-End RAM.
The smart people will wait or just upgrade their needs.
