I have an Asus A8N-SLI Premium motherboard (the one without a fan) and I am needing to replace it. Is it worth the money to buy another 939 motherboard or should I upgrade to an Intel or am2 motherboard and processor?

Here is my current computer

XP pro/Vista ultimate
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ 939
Asus A8N-SLI Premium
2 GB OCZ RAM
2 320 GB HDD
1 300 GB HDD
650W Thermaltake PSU
Audigy 4 sound card
XFX 7600 GT
Thermaltake Armor Series VA8000BWS Case
19" Viewsonic LCD

That depends on how much you want to spend. Tell us what your budget is. If you are looking to spend a little as possible, then replacing your 939 is the way to go because you have nice RAM and hard drives (not sure what processor you have). If you have more money, then you might go with a Core 2 Duo system. This would require you to buy a new motherboard, processor, memory, and possibly hard drive(s) if your current hard drives are PATA. Most new motherboards for AM2 and Core 2 Duo systems only have one PATA (for two devices) connection.

Let us know more about your budget and how you will use the computer.

My processor is an AMD X2 4200+ and the hard drives are all SATA.

I have a Plextor DVD burner that is PATA.

As of right now I am wanting to spend as little as posible

what do you use the machine for? the x2 4200 is still a good processor and is no slouch. unless you are using software that is highly cpu intensive then moving to a c2d won't offer much. also, 939 boards can be found that offer what you need for very reasonable prices, just look through the fs/ft forum and you might find your exact m/b so you wouldn't even need to do a re-install :)

I mainly use it for gaming (F.E.A.R., Halo, Oblivion, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., and more), I do some video editing, and a little photo editing also.

I am also planning on doing a clean install sometime soon

Okay, so you are looking to spend as little as possible. Then do what bob4432 says. This would cost you less than $100.

It would be a waste to do anythingg except get a new 939 mobo. You have a great set up as it is, so no need to spend money when you don't have to.
