do I need an upgrade or should I start from scratch? I'm not looking at money yet but I use it mainly for games and I play with my graphics on "ultra"
 
Depends on how much money you have to spend. Sure getting a c2 system with a 8800 will be much faster, but also getting a 4600+ and 8800gts and another gig of ram might get you comparable performance. I am kind of in the same boat, though I have a worse system and am a poor college student. I am just going to get an 8800 and keep plugging away at s939 until I can afford to do a full upgrade.
