Upgrade or not?!

Hi,

i currently have a P4B-533 with 1.5 GB single channel DDR RAM and a P4 2.66@3.3GHz Northwood cpu. My videocard is a Radeon 9700 Pro, which makes this setup a decent midrange rig.

I know that dual channel, higher FSB, faster cpu (maybe dual core) could enhance overall performance in games (and Photoshop working with 140MB pics besides), but the main flaw is certainly the GPU and my budget is limited.

Would you upgrade to something like a 6800 GT AGP or do you think this will be a waste of money and GPU power?

Thanks

Do you think that you'll upgrade the entire machine or at least the core system (CPU, MB, etc.) in a year? If so, then you would be better served to save your money and put it toward a PCI-E video card to go with the other new components. If you suspect that your current system will last yet a while longer, then the video card would be a worthwhile purchase.

Not much you do for games without switching to a completely new platform (A64) wither way the CPU is plenty Fast. Even dual cores won't help (will even hinder in some situations due to price and performance of a single core MHZ wise). A video card would be a worthwhile upgrade. 6800GT or a 850XT would good buys.
