Hi,

I have Athlon XP2000+ based computer with 512MB RAM, Palit GF3 Ti200 128MB graphic card.

I have two upgrade opportunities:
1. Changing the processor to Athlon XP 2500+ Barton (512K cache), for about 30$ additional payment.
2. Changing the GF3 graphic card to GigaCube R9600 Pro 128MB, for about 90$ additional payment.

My system functions very fine, but looking ahead to the new games such as Doom3 and the 3D Mark 2003 (result about 1100),
I thought that it could be a good idea to improve :)

What do you think about ?

Thanks

Zeev

go for a 9700np instead of a 9600......i have it and the alpha of doom 3 runs okay but there is much room for improvement

i know its just an alpha but i also drop to 30fps in CS when a smoke bomb is thrown:(

I would also try and squeeze a little money and try to get the 9700 np...

The 9500 pro would be nice if you can find one...

That 2000+ along with some minor overclocking would help push that 9700 to its potential...

:)

No need for a CPU upgrade yet, although $30 is a nice deal, do you have ram capable of running the 333FSB? That will hike that price up too....

Edit:

Welcome to the forums.

did u overclock your card? mine is at 500/375 and it runs the alpha pretty well, making me think it'll run the real thng just fine. also, i dont get any lag with current games at all

Wait for half life 2/doom III comes out and upgrade to whatever is best then. I would recommend a 9700, if you are a little daring you can try newegg refurbished for some stellar video card deals. An ATI 9700 non pro for 240 might be a winner for you though.

I have the upgrade bug bad but keep reminding myself - prices are only going down (except for memory :disgust:
