Upgrade Options for HP dv9040us???

Hey Guys - I will claim ignorance before I even get started. I have been a desktop junkie for many years. I have lost count on how many pc's I have built and torn down. To that end, I have moved away from my desktops and have inherited a laptop (above) as my main pc. Yet, I know nothing about upgrading notebook components, and want to do my homework before I get started. Also, to manage expectations, I contacted HP, and did not get the proper "guidance" to answer my questions, so I am going to see if there is valuable information out there.



Anywho, I am interested in seeing if there are any valid upgrade options available for this laptop, with primary focus on cpu, memory, gpu, and hard drive. The laptop came with:

Intel Core2Duo T5500 CPU (1.66Ghz, 667fsb, 2MB cache)
2GB DDR2 Memory (2 x 1gb) - specs not provided
Nvidia GeForce Go 7600 (256MB)
Hard Drive - 240GB (2x120GB 5400 RPM)
Assuming I am competant enough to replace these parts accurately, what can I do with this laptop to improve performance?

Not much room for RAM improvement unless you move to a 64 bit OS. The HDD can be changed to 7200 RPM, but you will lose about 40 GB of storage.

Not really sure that you can really improve "performance" so's it would be noticeable in apps.

CPU maybe - but that would eliminate your warranty. It is not "user replaceable."

Why not sell it and by a hotter laptop?
 
The only worthwhile part to upgrade would be the CPU. Everything else is either top notch already or irreplaceable (Such as the GPU).

my warranty is about to expire anyway, so I am not too concerned with voided it.

how can i find out which cpu's are compatible for me to upgrade to? T7200? anything else?

 
No 800MHz FSB C2Ds. But I don't really see the need to upgrade the CPU. You already have a C2D and for the cost of an upgrade to something in the 2GHz range, I don't think you'll see a $200-$500 increase in performance.
