Upgrade opinions

Ok, I have enough points to have the Intel Retail Edge deal reserved for me (over 10k), however I'm debating whether I'm currently in a situation where it would be worthwhile upgrading anyhow.

(The retailedge deal is Penitum D 820+Intel 945psn motherboard+winxp pro+adobe software for $215)

I currently am using a Athlon XP 2800+, Abit NF7-S with Soundstorm, geforce 6800gt agp8x, 2GB ddr3200 memory, dual 250gb sata seagates, antec 430watt truepower.

Now with the intelretailedge deal they have the D945PSN motherboard, and Intel Pentium D 820 cpu. The motherboard needs a PCI-E graphics card, and DDR2 memory, of which I would now have to buy in addition just to get it up and running.

Anyways 7800GT PCI-E i can find for around 300 on a good deal, and 2 gigs of corsair DDR2 im looking at around 170-180.

I've been reading the reviews of the d820 and it doesnt seem that great for games, which is a big part of my computer usage. However i do some dvd ripping, and a little video work too. The 820 also would run a lot hotter than my xp2800+ from my understanding.

Sorry to make this long but if anyone thinks this sounds like it'll be a good upgrade say yes otherwise say no.

Any opinions are welcomed.

Thanks,
Mark

To me it looks like you already have a good system.

I think the price you are gettings is quite good, but the fact that it looks like you have invested a lot in your current rig (2GB RAM and nice video card) would make me want to stick with it a while longer.

If you had any generation of video card less than what you have now it would be worth it.

You can always try and sell your current card but you know you won't get close to what you paid for it.
