Would I see any speed difference by upgrading a Pentium 4 processor to something faster?

System build:

Motherboard: Asus P4C800-E Deluxe
Ram: Corsair XMS 1GB 3200 DDR
Processor: Pentium 4 3.0 GHZ socket 478 Northwood over clocked 20% in Asus bios to 3.6 GHZ

I am mostly running Photoshop CS, and ripping music /DVD's, no games.
There are several processors out there that are socket 478 that I could go with like the Prescott. Would it be worth the investment to upgrade and see some speed difference or just wait toward the end of summer to do a complete upgrade?
I have used AMD processors in the past and this is the first Intel that I have used in years. I used the Intel because of the hyper-threading technology at the time due to multi tasking capability.
I haven't decided what I will rebuilt with, AMD or Intel. I kinda lean toward the AMD.

I'd say hold out for a while longer. You're really not going to see a night and day performance increase from upgrading to one that is 400mhz faster or so. P4s tend to be better at the types of applications you're running than A64s for the most part as well.

Just hold out until you have more dough, and there is more stuff worth shelling out for. Right now there isn't a huge leap in performance, which is also the reason I haven't upgraded yet (dispite my outdated tech). There are some decent upgrades, but I don't think it's worth the money yet.

You're almost maxed out there. 3.6GHz is a nice overclock and should keep you running for a while. Even if you did upgrade, you won't see too much of a speed boost, but you will notice a large chunk of cash gone.

you might like to go dual-core in the next year or so, but unfortunately you would need a new MB, RAM and CPU...and most likely a new VGA card as well...id wait a while
