I was thinking of upgrading my Motherboard, Processor and Ram. I have a Gigabyte GA7-VAXP with an Athlon XP 2200 at 1.9 and 1.5 gigz of Crucial PC2700 RAM. There's a game I want to play that's coming out next year. Should I upgrade now? or wait until then...

Wait till you have a problem running something to your satisfaction then upgrade.

I don't know about that.;)

Edit: Oh you said "boose" performance. Yeah it might do that.

if you wait, youll wait forever.

Your pc seems to be enough for HL2, given you have a 9700pro or better

if its doom3, then a 9700pro or a geforce 4 will do the job

Huh?

I see no reason for an upgrade if he wants to play
HALF LIFE 2 3D ACTION GAME FROM VALVE SOFTWARE

As long as he has an
ATI RADEON 9700 PRO 3D GRAPHICS CARD ADAPTER ACCELERATOR THINGIE - or better

hope you understand now

:)

Man you even used the Queen's english and I still don't understand. You said since he has a 9700 or better he should be fine in HL2. In the context of HL2 (released benches) the 5900Ultra has no where near the performance of the 9700Pro so how would you consider that a 9700 or better. I'm not saying he won't be able to play it and I'm not trying to start a nVidiot vs. fanATIc war I was just curious how you came to that conclusion.

Ok..this is beyond irritating, so I must say something. I, myself, have a 9700Pro. However, I truly wish people would STFU whenever someone says they got a 5900U or something. Stop mentioning HL2, please, for the love of god. Let them be happy, and stop bringing the whole damn thing up.

Ok this is very confusing and i didnt mean to be rude, just clear so ill start over:

He said he wants to upgrade.
He gave his specs.
He didnt give Video card specs.

I proceeded to say that his PC was ok as long as he had a 9700pro or better.
As I was typing to post that, he posted saying he had a 5900Ultra, so my post came after his.

This caused the whole confusion

I now feel sorry for him, as he has wasted his money on a crap card that will not play HL2 better than a Geforce 4.

And Excelsior you should be happy, you have one of the best cards to play HL2 on :)

Do yourself a favor. Upgrade now and that way when all these people who are waiting are in their time to upgrade and people are talking about dual core cpus and 2nd gen p5's, youll be the one who can buy that stuff while they are fresh off their upgrade.

Misunderstanding. :)

I think he will still be ok but hopefully for him nVidia has some of those magic drivers on the horizon. I think a lot of the eye candy is overated but its still nice to know I will get to see it.

Save your hard earned cash. If the game is coming out next year, then why spend all the money now when next year there will be something much better and faster. Things like processor, motherboards and video cards will always get better and cheaper as time goes along.

Yeah, think I'll wait... Although to shut some people up, someone I know down the hall of my dorm played Halflife 2 and he has a 5900 Ultra, and it looked simply amazing. So if you people are going to brag about your cheap ATI cards, and how they'll perform "better" than Nvidia, go ahead. The game looks amazing no matter what you guys might think. So what if I can't see a flea on the ass of rat without having a 9700? I like the card and it's fine for now.
