Upgrade now or wait a few months?

Old account can't transfer but o well...I'm still newb ()🙂

I haven't been following hardware for about 3 yrs since building my last pc, but want to upgrade-err, rather build another pc. I'm just wondering if I should upgrade now or wait a few months for prices to drop, since the Intel 6-core cpu's recently came out, and AMD supposedly is releasing similar ones as well? Also need pretty much everything else besides video card as well - mobo, memory, PSU, bigger HD.

I use my assistant for gaming and photoshop drawing, later for 3dsMax/Maya as well. Currently I'm barely running Battlefield Bad Company 2 smoothly in multiplayer on low settings (medium detail and sound, max 1920x1200 resolution though). Would like the new build to last a good 3 or more years like my current one, minus the video card.

Suggestions on what to buy will of course be welcome. Currently considering:

AMD Phenom II X4 965 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103727
Biostar TA790GXE http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813138146
GSkill 8GB (2x4gb) DDR2 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231182
1TB Internal HD 7200rpm http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822152185
650w PSU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139005

Also, stick with DDR2? price difference is about $100 for 8gb.. And will the 650w PSU be enough for the future? I'm running a 430w PSU with the Geforce 260 w/o problems 😀

Much appreciated.

I'm hoping the Price Drops occur later this month. Supposedly the Release of the X6 should happen by then and given the Price ranges being tossed around, it seems inevitable that the X4 line will need to be Discounted.

Just read the release date of x6 cpu's are supposed to be on the 26th, and price estimates are quite low: cheapest at around $200? There HAS to be a price drop on the x4's, though the six-cores look delicious... Have to see how much the mobo's are though.

And WTH happened to DDR2 memory?! Apparently there was an oversupply of them and now they're switching more production for DDR3. Not a big price difference now for 2GB stick at least...

I shall wait for the end of the month.
