It has been a while since I have upgraded. I can get the Abit board pro for 128 from mwave...i am not sure about processor as I have the ADATA 4gb kit and also the crucial ballistix 2gb kit, both ddr2 800.... I am going to try an run vista 64bit.

I have read about the new processors coming out, how much real gain will occur from the new chipsets and cpus over what is current now? When will they come out and how much will the price of the current stuff drop, if any.

Sorry for the boring questions...I have been out of the loop for a while. Just dont have time to keep up.

I went from a Opty 165, DFI NF4, and x1900xt to a Q6600, Abit ip35-e, and 8800gt.

I can't really comment on CPU performance as I don't do "much" that is CPU bound I'm pretty much a gamer and a tweaker. Gaming performance is MUCH better than it was.... and OCing this thing is very fun too! I LOVE seeing 4 CPU graphs in the task mgr...

As for whats comming out in the future. Well Penryn was delayed a few months so it really depends on how long you want to wait. Clock for clock I think its about 5-10% faster than current C2's and for Quads I think the prices will stay about the same except of course they will be a touch faster. It really depends on how long you want to play the waiting game. There is always something just arround the corner.

I personally think the pricing of the current Q6600 is excellent esspecially if you plan to OC.

Unless you know some of your apps will run parallel threads across 4 cores you could save $80 with a C2D 6750.

I doubt that Opty is cpu-bound in gaming if you have a decent OC in the 2.6-2.8GHz range. You should get well over 3+ GHz with the 6750.
