A SSD with make it load faster. I use a SSD In an old pentium 3 and find it's fine for many tasks.

The CPU is likely fine and 4gb of ram is more than enough for day to day use, but may not be enough for some games or high end apps.

Without detail of what you do it's kind of hard to give a good recommendation. But moving to an SSD, any SSD, will be a big boost over that 5400rpm hdd.

Depends on your laptop. My thinkpad and dell can both take adapters in the ODD bay (I assume ODD is Optical Disk Drive). If yours can, get a fast, but small SSD and put that large HDD in the adapter for bulk storage.

As for CPU useage, I really don't understand. I mainly use p4 mobile and core 2 duo laptops. None have high CPU use when browsing the web. It may be time for a clean install of windows.

Now this will unlikely work in your laptop, but it's what I would use in my thinkpad.

Again, you must find one for your make / model, if they ever made one. Many never had such options.

And, if your laptop does not have AHCI mode, you may be at a crossroad decision.
