Upgrade Mint 15 to 16, now unable to login

The issue is, my login screen refuses to come up. It says it encountered an error while loading Mechanical (steampunk login screen theme that i used). And I have no way to get in to the system. Anyone know how to fix this without doing a fresh install? I'm willing to change the login screen if need be, but I can't get close to that far. I can't log in (I can pull up recovery mode, but the only seemingly relevant option is to pull up a root shell or whatever in there, and I wouldn't know what commands could help me out o this predicament, or where the files I need to change would be located).

And yes, I know fresh install is recommended. I just thought this way would be less work and more fun... More work and more fun so far, assuming I can get this fixed and learn something.

I would reinstall it, will take less time and headache, but you could try to post at Mint Forum for help but when i had Mint ops installed i registered there but it was pretty much useless, nobody there cares, that's why i Use Ubuntu cause i never run in trouble but if i do i just go to Ubuntu forums and people always come to our rescue. All my Pcs use Ubuntu and i don't want nothing else, beleive me i tried them all, but always go back to Ubuntu but not Unity just old Gnome flashback and XFCE
